SHARP Mission
To empower surgeon scientists to determine the biopsychosocial underpinnings of surgical disease, measure surgical outcomes and test innovative approaches to improving surgical care in central Ohio and beyond, through robust health services research methodology.
SHARP Strategic Goals
- To BUILD a central resource for the tools needed to execute high-quality surgical health services research.
- To CONNECT a network of surgeon-scientists, other researchers and clinicians with shared interests in quality, equity, and cost-effectiveness of surgical care delivery.
- To DEVELOP a pipeline of extramurally funded surgical health services researchers
- To CREATE an innovative and high impact surgical health services research portfolio
- To SUSTAIN SHARP as an ongoing, self-funded research center
SHARP Core Faculty
Core faculty ranging from new investigators to seasoned health services researchers are committed members of the intellectual enterprise housed within SHARP. They receive and provide mentorship through private consultations, brainstorming sessions and research in progress meetings; have access to physical space, secure database server; staff support for project coordination/management and statistical analysis (planning and execution) and prioritization of dedicated resources allocated for grant funding opportunities (R, K level, and equivalents from other federal/philanthropic sources). Senior core faculty shall be expected to maintain funding while others shall be expected to adhere to a 3 year time line for new awards (Junior- New K award or equivalent; mid/senior level- New R01 or equivalent).
