HOW TO: Start a Project with SHARP

NOTE: For future reference, this post is saved as “Initiating a New Project” under “SHARP FAQ’s and Important Links” on the left side of this blog.

Are you ready to start a project with SHARP?  Please start an entry in the SHARP Project Database about your project.

Click here to complete the form: https://redcap.bmi.osumc.edu/redcap/surveys/?s=PFAL43WH4X

This form is completed by either the PI or a designee, and includes basic information about the PI, the type of project, the help needed from SHARP (if any) and a brief, 1-2 paragraph summary of the project aims.  This form can be completed at any time once a project has been identified.

For our database purposes we will define a “project” as; a grant application, an IRB application; a stand-alone manuscript or series of manuscripts, etc.  For example, a K application or R01 may generate multiple “projects” in the database, including the grant submission, a grant revision, and potentially multiple IRB protocols, depending on scope.  A “project” can be funded or unfunded.

Please complete the form for all SHARP-related projects, even if you aren’t utilizing SHARP staff to complete it.  We anticipate that this form will take only about 10 minutes to complete.

Additional instruments in the background of the database will be completed by project staff, to track staffing assignments, regulatory details, important dates, and project status over time.  We anticipate that these forms can also be completed in ~10 minutes, then a few seconds to minutes per month to update project status.

The SHARP Project Database helps us in a number of ways:

  1. It is a repository of all SHARP projects and project details.
  2. We use it operationally to track staff effort and workflow.
  3. We use it to report SHARP metrics to the DOS.

Note: if you have staff whom you would like to have access to the database, please let Dr. Opalek (judy.opalek@osumc.edu) know!

Combat Casualty Care Research Program (CCCRP) RFI

Leveraging Data within the Federal Interagency Traumatic Brain Injury Research (FITBIR) Informatics System to Identify Actionable Insights for the Diagnosis, Management and Treatment of TBI

The Department of Defense Joint Program-6 (JPC-6), Combat Casualty Care Research Program (CCCRP) has recently released an RFI for the secondary analysis of data housed within FITBIR. We are inviting responses to this RFI in an effort to leverage data within FITBIR to identify actionable insights for the diagnosis, management and treatment of TBI.

Respondents should submit a Capabilities Statement that demonstrates the Offeror’s ability to perform the scope of work identified in accordance with the RFI, including but not limited to:

  • A plan for utilizing the data within the repository including a description of:

o   Specific studies that will be analyzed

o   Forms (including CDEs and UDEs) that will be analyzed

  • A brief description of the multidisciplinary team that may be well-suited to accomplish the task (e.g., data scientists, neurologists, neuroscientists etc.)

  • A detailed timeline for the completion of FITBIR data analysis/mining

  • An anticipated budget that details the amount of funds needed to successfully complete the task

The program will feature lectures, mock grant review, seminars, small group discussions on research relevant to minority health and health disparities. It will also include sessions with NIH scientific staff engaged in related health disparities research across the various institutes and centers.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This program is intended for early stage research investigators. Applications will only be accepted from post-doctoral fellows, assistant professors, or individuals in similar early stage research career positions who are engaged in minority health and health disparities research. Early career researchers from diverse backgrounds interested in the conduct of health research, within academic, community-based, non-profit, and other non-academic settings, are encouraged to apply.

HOW TO APPLY

The online application is now open on the NIMHD website: https://nimhd.nih.gov/programs/edu-training/hd-research-institute/hdri_logon.asp.
