HOW TO: Start a Project with SHARP

NOTE: For future reference, this post is saved as “Initiating a New Project” under “SHARP FAQ’s and Important Links” on the left side of this blog.

Are you ready to start a project with SHARP?  Please start an entry in the SHARP Project Database about your project.

Click here to complete the form: https://redcap.bmi.osumc.edu/redcap/surveys/?s=PFAL43WH4X

This form is completed by either the PI or a designee, and includes basic information about the PI, the type of project, the help needed from SHARP (if any) and a brief, 1-2 paragraph summary of the project aims.  This form can be completed at any time once a project has been identified.

For our database purposes we will define a “project” as; a grant application, an IRB application; a stand-alone manuscript or series of manuscripts, etc.  For example, a K application or R01 may generate multiple “projects” in the database, including the grant submission, a grant revision, and potentially multiple IRB protocols, depending on scope.  A “project” can be funded or unfunded.

Please complete the form for all SHARP-related projects, even if you aren’t utilizing SHARP staff to complete it.  We anticipate that this form will take only about 10 minutes to complete.

Additional instruments in the background of the database will be completed by project staff, to track staffing assignments, regulatory details, important dates, and project status over time.  We anticipate that these forms can also be completed in ~10 minutes, then a few seconds to minutes per month to update project status.

The SHARP Project Database helps us in a number of ways:

  1. It is a repository of all SHARP projects and project details.
  2. We use it operationally to track staff effort and workflow.
  3. We use it to report SHARP metrics to the DOS.

Note: if you have staff whom you would like to have access to the database, please let Dr. Opalek (judy.opalek@osumc.edu) know!
