Training for Tanzania

Professors Audrey Sawyer and Zuzana Bohrerova (Environmental Engineering) showed students water quality testing procedures in the lab to prepare them for their trip to Tanzania. The class leaves today to assist on water supply projects for the village of Marwa. They will be led by Professors Michael Hagenberger and Joe Campbell. Corey and Mitch present at White Clay Creek Fest

Corey and Mitch discussed tidal rivers and water quality with community members at the annual White Clay Creek Fest in Delaware. They also demonstrated field methods to measure water quality. Their research on tidal rivers is supported by the National Science Foundation.

Group soccer

Audrey Sawyer’s research group took on Derek Sawyer’s research group in soccer and narrowly lost (4-5). They got lucky.

Hydrogeology class visits drill site

Our hydrogeology class, ES 5651, had the great opportunity to observe a borehole being drilled. Special thanks to Will Baro at DLZ, Inc. for teaching us about the drilling process, including soil sampling and descriptions.

Postdoc position

We seek a postdoctoral scientist to lead an effort to quantify submarine groundwater discharge to the world’s oceans. The postdoc will spearhead data analysis in GIS and numerical modeling to estimate direct groundwater inputs to the coast across the United States and world. The postdoc will be part of a growing computational hydrogeology team at The Ohio State University and will work closely with hydrologists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The position is for 1 full year with the opportunity for renewal.

Requirements: Ph.D. in hydrology, hydrogeology, earth science, environmental engineering, or a closely related field. Basic familiarity with geographic information systems, geographic data analysis or geolocated data analysis, and Python programming for geographic analysis is essential. Expertise in coastal hydrogeology is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong publication record for his or her career stage.
