Project Statement

This project involved layering card stock to create the illusion of depth. I decided to use small pieces of cardboard to create wider spaces between my layers to push the composition farther back into space. With this project, I focused on the concept of isolation because of how prevalent it is in our world. I wanted to evoke a sense of longing and loneliness from the spectator through my composition. The outcome displays that sense of isolation through the use of contrast and scale. The two figures’ physical distance in the piece and the large figure’s act of reaching out work with those principle to complete the composition.

Reflection

Overall, I felt that this project pushed me to dive deeper into my chosen concept and dig below the surface. During this project, I faced many mental obstacles when it came to adding to my piece. I would have liked to add smaller details within the layers. However,  the construction process I found myself adding more and more to my piece and becoming more curious on what else could be explored and felt it still communicated by concept effectively. I am still eager to improve my craft and using this newfound curiosity to fuel my future projects.
