The OSUCCC-James T32 in Cancer Prevention & Control is currently accepting Postdoc applications!
The OSUCCC-James T32 Training Program (Columbus, OH) focuses on cancer prevention, ranging from cancer risk and epidemiology (including tobacco) to health outcomes. The program covers the full spectrum of cancer control and includes an important focus on health disparities. The training program is intended to contribute to the pipeline of young cancer control and prevention researchers who will become independent scientists.
Dr. Joanne Patterson, a T32 CPC postdoctoral mentor, is encouraging outstanding postdoctoral candidates in LGBTQ health equity and tobacco prevention to apply to this mechanism.
Dr. Patterson is a health equity scholar, biobehavioral scientist, and assistant professor in the Division of Health Behavior and Health Promotion at The Ohio State University College of Public Health. Postdocs interested in working with Dr. Patterson would contribute to studies focused on:
- identifying key characteristics of marketing and health communications that influence consumer’s risk perceptions and use of nicotine and tobacco.
- evaluating how social contexts, psychosocial factors, and comorbid behaviors influence how LGBT and other minoritized groups respond to tobacco health communications, warnings, marketing, and product standards.
Dr. Patterson is currently funded by the National Cancer Institute to develop anti-tobacco messages for LGBTQ young adults who are at-risk for vaping and cigarette smoking (R00 CA260718). She also leads community-engaged research with local organizations to address LGBTQ tobacco and other carcinogenic product use.
