First Week Interning for the Ohio Ag Net!

My first two days of interning for the Ohio Ag Net was an incredible experience. On May 2 and May 3, was the Ohio FFA State Convention. I got the opportunity to work the stage left camera for the convention. My job was to create a different shot, that the convention cameramen weren’t taking. I got dressed up in a suit jacket, so I was looking nice and feeling nice.

The Ohio Ag Net also hired some student workers to go out and get interviews during the convention to give them good broadcasting experiences, so I was the one holding the camera for their interviews. Each of the student workers did a really great job. After those were done, I fetched pizzas and got set up for the next session.

I actually was able to get interviews from the first keynote speaker Chris Koch. He has no arms or legs, and getting to meet him was really cool. I got to eat pizza with him too and actually get to talk with him. The next keynote speaker was Mandy Harvey, who was a deaf, singer that won America’s Got Talent. It was difficult trying to get an interview with her, but I was able to manage it. I spoke with her father and asked him if it was alright, and he agreed. We had some technical difficulties on Facebook live, because she played her clip of getting the golden buzzer on the talent show. Facebook shut us down for copyright issues.

The next day of the convention was pretty much the same. After the final session was over, I helped tear down and pack everything up. The following Monday, I went into the offices, helped set up the podcast they do every morning and was given an assignment to watch a Facebook live at 3 pm and pull quotes from the discussion about President Trump raising tariffs against China. My first week was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to learn more from the Ohio Ag Net. My fraternity brothers ask me why I am so happy when I come back from interning, and I tell them I’m finally gaining the experience I’ve been waiting for.
