Many fungi can cause stem cankers on soybeans. Cankers will girdle the stems and reduce nutrient and water flow to leaves and developing pods. Yield loss will depend on how early symptoms appear. Mid- and late-season diseases like Phytophthora stem rot and Sclerotinia stem rot have caused the most yield loss. Diaporthe stem canker has reappeared in 2015, 2016 and 2017 in a few fields in Ohio.
