It Pays to Care for Trees!

Over the past several years, The Ohio State University Extension has partnered with Holden Forests and Gardens to promote the benefits of trees. Using i-tree, calculations can be made on the economic value of trees. Recently, signs we installed on trees at Kelleys Island State Park.

Working with Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio State Parks and Watercraft, and Chris Ashley, Kelleys Island State Park Manager and Daria High, a student intern from Hocking Technical College, β€œIt Pays To Care For Trees!” signs were installed on trees at the park in the campground.

Visitors can learn the Latin and common name of specific trees and there benefit to the environment. Categories include gallons of Stormwater Runoff Avoided, Carbon Dioxide Reduced, Air Pollution Removed, and Stored Carbon Dioxide. A total benefit in dollars over 20 years is calculated.
