Learn About Myelodysplastic Syndromes on Webcast. Myelodysplastic syndromes are a group of diseases in which bone marrow cells do not fully mature into normal blood cells, resulting in reduced numbers of blood cells or cytopenias. It is estimated that more than 60,000 Americans have a myelodysplastic syndrome and as our population continues to age, that number will only increase. Joining us today to update us on myelodysplastic syndromes are two specialists in hematology from the Ohio State University. Dr. Katherine Walsh is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Dr. Alice Mims is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine.
