Sawyer Burley – Strength and Conditioning

“Since January of 2022, I have assisted the strength and conditioning staff at Ohio University with their football and field hockey teams. The flexibility of the Sports Coaching program has given me the chance to grow my education in coaching as I get hands-on experience being on the weight room floor. The program emphasizes the importance of knowing your student-athletes as people (not an athlete) and who you are as a coach. Knowing how to use your core values to drive your coaching style while being adaptable to what each generation needs for learning. I thank the professors in this program for positively impacting my coaching abilities, future career, and personal growth.”

Gyai Gyamerah – Basketball

“I have been a trainer for the last 5 years. My training style is individual sessions and at times I have small group sessions. I teach two different components of basketball, “Game Enhancement” and “Skill Enhancement”. Game enhancement training teaches players to do things such as game like shooting off the dribble, coming off a screen, or reading and reacting. Skill Enhancement training teaches players to work on actual body positioning and to do certain drills you would not normally do in a game yet, will make your shot, dribbling and speed quicker. I was also an assistant coach for AAU basketball for a couple of years. That was a fun time to speak and connect with the young athletes!”

“The Masters of Sports Coaching program was an excellent source of information for all areas of coaching. The guest speakers and other classmates provided real life experiences that were able to accelerate my learning process as a new coach. And the discussion-based format of the program facilitated open discussion between professors and students and created an open environment for learning.”
