My Favourite Day.

Experiencing Westminster Abbey and having the freedom to pick my own museum and explore the city for the rest of the day was the best part of this trip for me. That day was also a big stepping stone for me because I switched from using pencil to pen and allowed any mistakes speak for themselves. From the beginning of this semester, I wanted to improve my drawing skills. I had never taken an art class (except for studio) before this one and I was excited to see myself learn and grow. I am normally very precise and careful with my drawings so when I was able to just go straight in with pen, I felt as if I accomplished something big for myself.

A quarter of Westminster Abbey!

  1. Lovely sketch Kamilla! The detail is really starting to come together and the bold callouts of the pen read very clear. I had similar goals for myself upon starting this trip with using pen for sketches. I typically stick to pencil because erasers are my best friend and also because I am good at shading in pencil. Using other mediums is a good way for us to learn more about the objects we draw in a new light. I know for me, that using a pen taught me how to fit a lot of line detail into smaller and smaller spaces of the drawing. The micro tip pens were my personal favorite because I felt like I could make everything legible as to where with pencil, the line weight can vary pretty easily

  2. This sketch turned out amazing! The detail is amazing, and is something that is definitely easier to achieve than when using a pencil. Throughout this trip I have mainly sketched in pencil, which is nice for shading, but not so great when it comes to fine detail. I am trying to push myself to use pen with these last few sketches, mainly my sketch of Westminster’s rose window, because of how much detail is in it. However, it is hard to convince myself to do so since I like having the security of an eraser. I think that I am just going to have to push myself to do it and except the mistakes and learn and grow from them in order to improve my pen sketching abilities. I
