My First Semester at OSU

My first semester at OSU has been amazing. I’ve made so many friends, learned a ton, and had unforgettable experiences. At the start of the semester I was worried about the classes I would be taking and how well I would do. Now that I’ve been here for a whole semester I have gotten in the swing of things and know that I can and will do well here. I was also worried at first about the size of campus and finding my way around. After a semester here I am pretty confident you could plop me anywhere on campus and I could find my way home. It only took about 2 weeks for me to feel confident in where I was going. Campus feels smaller and friendlier than I ever imagined it would and I absolutely love it. I’ve made good friends from being in Humanities Scholars. Also doing things for the 20 points I need requires me to get involved in the community, which is something I really like. Moving forward with Humanities Scholars I just want to remain involved in the community. I want to continue to experience everything OSU and Columbus have to offer. I also hope to get even closer with other members of Humanities. I am very happy with my choice to come to OSU; it is absolutely the place for me.

But Out Reflection

I’d like to spend more time with my family, but I am away at school.

I’d like to eat healthier, but junk food is yummy.

I’d like to work out regularly, but I’m usually tired.

I’d like to spend time with friends, but I have a lot of homework.

I’d like to be more organized about getting things done, but I always get stuff done now.

I’d like to spend more time with my family, and I am away at school. So I should make time for them to come visit me at school.

I’d like to eat healthier, and junk food is yummy. So I should limit the amount of junk I eat.

I’d like to work out regularly, and I’m usually tired. So I should alternate between napping and going to the gym.

I’d like to spend time with friends, and I have a lot of homework. So I should spend time in study groups with my friends.

I’d like to be more organized about getting things done, and I always get stuff done now. So I should just be more organized so I don’t have to stress about things getting done.

Humans of OSU

humans-of-osu

For my Humans of OSU assignment, I approached Mary Pat. I asked her “So, what is your story?” and this is what I found out: She is a freshman at Xavier. Mary Pat was visiting Ohio State to meet up with her friend who goes here. She came over her fall break. I asked her how she picked Xavier and she said that she walked onto campus and she just knew that it was the place for her. All the other schools she visited were just okay, but when she got to Xavier she got a feeling and just knew. I had a similar experience when I visited Ohio State. She is majoring in psychology. I am considering majoring in psychology, too. Mary Pat was very nice and it was lovely to talk to her for this project.

My First Week at OSU

Coming to OSU is a big change for me. All my life I’ve gone to small schools, schools where I knew every person and they all knew me. My biggest fears coming in are about how big the campus is and how hard classes will be. My fear of the size of OSU has diminished; I am by no means an expert at navigating campus, but I already know where more places are than I would have thought. I am very excited to make new friends, meet new people, and go to the football games. I’ve already met a ton of nice people and am looking forward to this continuing. This first week has gone great. I love everything about this place so far and know my experience here will only get better. I am very happy with my choice to go here. My expectations for my experience at OSU and in the Humanities Scholars program are to do well in my classes, make tons of friends, and have fun. All of this, hopefully, without getting too stressed out.
