Designs Used in Testing

Starting (Sample) AEV

The team started with the sample design of the AEV (above) that was given in the AEV Documents Module. This design was used through the early stages of the preliminary research and development, up until the concept scoring and screening was completed.

AEV Concept Drawing

During the concept scoring and screening each team member was required to submit a concept design for evaluation. The drawing above was the design that was chosen to be the best after all the designs (including the sample) were compared. The concept drawing included a flat design with two rectangular panels rather than the sample’s angled trapezoid side panels. This design was used for the preliminary research and development, and was evaluated during the advanced research and development.

Angled In AEV Design

During the advanced research and development, our team tested the motor configuration of the AEV. The configurations included Angled In (above), Angled Out (below), and the normal orientation shown in the AEV Concept Drawing. In this testing, it was concluded, due to the efficiency, that the design moving forward would include the motors being angled out. All of these designs included moving the battery to a position underneath the AEV with a battery support to create a more stable vehicle. The Angled Out design was used for the rest of the advanced research and development and all of the performance tests.
