Summary of ELSTECH 2011

During my time in ELSTECH, I’ve found three takeaways I’d like to share with my peers.

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Throughout the entirety of this course, I’ve learned that even though this is an online course, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is easier than one in person. If there is something you need help with, it is best to reach out to a professor and let them know what is going on so that they can best accommodate you where needed. It is also important to make note of staying on top of things so that you have time to ask for help as well as not fall behind.

2. Utilize Note-Taking Strategies

In this course, we have covered a variety of ways to take notes in different apps. With the help of apps like Trello and Notability, keeping track of the work you need to complete becomes easier. If you create to-do lists in Trello and take notes for classes you’re taking on the notability app, you are helping set yourself up for success. Using these apps help students stay in the loop about projects and assignments they need to have completed by certain dates. With these apps in the palm of our hands, being a successful student is an easier feat to accomplish.

3. Set SMART Goals

In the midst of this course, we’ve also learned about SMART Goals and how to set and fulfill them. SMART Goals make it easier to set a goal and achieve it. If you follow the outline to set your goals, it helps you realize how quickly you will be able to reach your goal as well as how likely it is. Since beginning this course, I’ve taken to setting SMART Goals for other classes I am taking to make sure I’m trying to achieve something within reach.
