About

Purpose

The Center for Latin American Studies and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at The Ohio State University are excited to announce Intensive Portuguese Abroad for Spanish Teachers (IPAST), a program in Portuguese language and culture consisting of online learning, followed by a three-week exchange experience in Curitiba, in southern Brazil. Live the language and culture and come home speaking Portuguese!

The program is intended primarily for Spanish teachers. Application is open, however, to teachers and administrators, and graduate students from Spanish, Education, and other disciplines who have at least an intermediate knowledge of Spanish and an interest in learning Portuguese.

Faculty

The intensive Portuguese language course will be taught by the faculty of CELIN, the language teaching arm of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). The Director of IPAST is Scott Schwenter, Ph.D., Professor of Hispanic Linguistics at The Ohio State University. Extra optional cultural and language teacher education activities will be offered by the faculty of UFPR’s Teachers across Borders project.

Location

The location of the program is Curitiba, Brazil.

Our hosts in Curitiba will be the Teachers across Borders university project and the Centro de Línguas e Interculturalidade (CELIN), both at the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR).
