Course

Description

Students will be registered for 3 graduate semester credits of Portuguese 5797 through regular Summer Term registration, and the credits will ultimately be posted on their transcript as Portuguese 5501 (3 credits of “Portuguese for Spanish Speakers”). Pass/fail and audit options are not available for this course.

The course consists of two modules:

The first module is entitled Manual de sobrevivência no Brasil (Survival Manual in Brazil) and consists of 30 synchronous, online contact hours divided into 15 two-hour sessions. This module begins in mid-April and ends in late May.

The second module is an intensive course in Portuguese, taught June 12-30 in person, in Curitiba. Class will be held for three hours each morning at CELIN, in central Curitiba. Required face-to-face contact hours total 45. Three graduate semester credits. Taught entirely in Portuguese.

Graded credit for successful completion of the program will be issued on an official Ohio State transcript. Ungraded (S/U or Pass/Fail) credit is not available for this program. The content and rigor of the IPAST program are consistent with the academic standards of The Ohio State University.

In the afternoons, participants will be invited to attend free events on language teaching-learning and cultural activities, for additional practice with the Portuguese language and Brazilian culture. (See the Activities tab above for details.)
