Program Cost
The total cost of the program is $2,200 USD, which includes the application fee, three (semester) hours of OSU graduate tuition; course materials; and airport pickup and drop-off at the international airport in Curitiba. The costs of round-trip air fare, lodging, standard medical insurance and supplemental travel health insurance, optional excursions, and personal expenditures will be additional.
The non-refundable application fee ($200) is paid to the Center for Latin American Studies. The course cost ($2,000) is paid directly to the Fundaçao da Universidade Federal do Paraná (FUNPAR) and may be paid in up to three installments provided that full payment is received before the end of the course.
Participants will be able to choose their lodging option (Airbnb, hotel, home stay).
Partial room and board is usually available with local professors and school teachers participating in the Teachers across Borders project. The project will organize homestays, at around $100 per week, and paid directly to the host family. This includes breakfast (with flexibility to arrange for other meals). Participants may also choose to secure their own lodging in Curitiba. For lunch and dinner, restaurants close to UFPR offer various options for less than $10/meal.
Non-residents of Ohio are not required to pay any additional costs to cover out-of-state tuition for this program.
Financial Aid
This program is an OSU “contract course” taught with the support of the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI). Since participants enroll for three credits through the Columbus campus and receive regular graduate credit on an OSU transcript, certain loans and scholarships may be applicable to the cost of this program as well.
Faculty at Community Colleges and Minority Serving institutions can apply for a professional development grant from CLAS (up to $1,500) to participate in IPAST.
Medical Insurance
All students participating in OSU study abroad programs are required to purchase supplementary medical insurance through Crisis24 ($50/month). Participants are required to maintain their regular insurance coverage while participating in the program as well. The provider and terms of the health insurance for study abroad are subject to change.
Excursions and Special Events
In order to offer a wider perspective of Brazilian life, the program offers optional excursions to sites of historical and cultural interest, guided tours, and other events. Such activities take place regularly and the costs are the personal responsibility of participants. Click on the Activities tab above for more specific information about these optional planned activities.
