DRIVE: Daily and Weekly Rehabilitation Delivery for Young Children with Cerebral Palsy
Who: Children ages 6-24 months old who have either (1) a diagnosis of cerebral palsy or (2) a significant gross motor delay.
What Happens: The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal dose of physical therapy for infants diagnosed with cerebral palsy GMFCS level III, IV or V or major motor delay between the ages of 6 and 24 months. Research participants receive 40 hours of one-on-one physical therapy from highly qualified physical therapists in high, intermediate or lose dosage. Cognitive and motor assessments are completed 10 times from the start of treatment through 24 months post-treatment. Our goal is to find the most effective dose for young children with significant motor delays.

Perinatal Arterial Stroke: A Multi-site RCT of Intensive Infant Rehabilitation (I-ACQUIRE)
Who: Children ages 8 months- 36 months with hemiplegia due to perinatal arterial stroke
What Happens: This study compares two doses of I-ACQUIRE treatment to typical rehabilitation (physical and/or occupational therapy) treatment in children (ages 8 months-36 months) with hemiplegia due to Perinatal Arterial Stroke (PAS). Both I-ACQUIRE doses include treatment 5 days per week for 4 weeks at either 3 hours per day or 6 hours per day. The goal is to find the amount of I-ACQUIRE therapy that helps the child gain the most arm and hand use. Twelve treatment sites are located throughout the United States of America. Cognitive and motor assessments are completed 3 times from the start of treatment through 6 months post-treatment.

What Happens: The families we contact are chosen based on their children’s age, their languages spoken at home, the size and makeup of the family, and because they live near a researcher in the PLAY project. You will be in the home with your child during the entire visit. The primary goal of this research is to learn how children and mothers interact at home and how that interaction and the home environment affect learning and development.
