As of January 2016, our Catalogue of Group Names of ancient peoples contains some 4000 names, all automatically generated from the application of Named Entity Recognition (NER) tools to some 350 classical texts (at this stage, in an English translation downloaded from Perseus.org; see Presentations page, #14 (Erdmann et al. 2016) regarding a Latin NER tool being developed under the auspices of the Project). Each group is ultimately the basis for a separate page documenting all known evidence for the group name in question.
In the drop down menu above, under the Ethnogroups tab, are some 120 groups mentioned in Herodotos, grouped geographically. African peoples are more fully documented than others, but they, and the others as well, remain sketches.
