My First Week at OSU!

I remember the sinking feeling in my stomach as I put my last box in the family truck: this was real. After talking about this day for years with my family, it was finally happening. I was going to college. Of course I was excited, there are so many opportunities for me to grow at Ohio State. But, as the tailgate slammed shut, I couldn’t help but let nerves and terror consume me. What if I wasn’t ready to live on my own? What if all my classes were too difficult? What if I didn’t make any friends? Just a short week later, I no longer let these thoughts terrorize me. My mind has been put at ease and I can’t wait to spend my next four years at the place I now call home, the Ohio State University.
I had the advantage of arriving on campus early as part of the OWL program. Being on campus a couple days before the majority of students helped me make friends, get to know the area, and become more comfortable with my surroundings before Welcome Week even began. This gave me the energy to really get involved in the events Welcome Week had to offer. I’ve made so many new friends, taken unique classes, and have repeatedly stepped out of my comfort zone. This past week has been life changing. I didn’t realize how incredible life outside of high school could be. I’m only a week in and I know classes get stressful and schedules get busy, but there is no doubt in my mind that these next four years are going to be unforgettable.
The First Year Retreat on Sunday was the perfect way for me to get acquainted with new people. The foreign faces I was doing embarrassing icebreakers with Sunday are now my friends. After the first meeting and cookout I knew I was in the right program. Everyone I’ve meant is so genuine and bright and I love hearing from different perspectives. The Humanities Scholars is going to be a great way for me to get involved, make connections, and form a community. I cannot wait for the rest of the fun events the Humanities Scholars Program is offering. As Welcome Week comes to a close I am feeling more confident and ambitious than ever, and my college career has just begun.

About Me

Hi there, I’m Kenzie, an eighteen year old English major here at OSU! I love reading, writing, and smelling books. Besides being a bookworm, I love exploring and meeting new people. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a HUGE introvert, but forming connections with another person and getting to know what motivates them fascinates me. Being around new people at first is so intimidating, but after I start to warm up to them, I will never stop cracking jokes (I’m sorry, they are mostly dad jokes). I feel like in such a dark time this world needs people who radiate positivity, so I try my hardest to do just that. Okay this got really deep, so let’s bring it back to the light hearted about me it’s supposed to be! My favorite food is pizza. My favorite colors are green and periwinkle. My favorite flower is the sunflower. I’m ecstatic to be starting at Ohio State University and honestly couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. There is much opportunity for me to grow as a person on this beautiful campus and I can’t wait to make friends and memories that last a life time!
