In a society striving toward female equality, it seems as though the advertisement industry hasn’t gotten the cue that its time to change it up. Gender roles are not as traditional as they used to be. Men can cook. Women can work. We live in a world where nearly anything is possible, yet we’re still stuck on objectifying women. Why do we continue buying products with stereotypes like these…

  1. The one where the she cleans the mess.

 

Not only is she celebrating the one day of the year that appreciates her by cleaning the wall, but she is teaching her DAUGHTER how to clean as well. Wonder where the men have gone.

 

  1. The one where the she is basically nude, or maybe completely nude.

Thank god the burgers give full coverage! Surrounded by vegetables around her she seems to be very healthy and natural. Really in her element.

 

  1. The one where she belongs in the kitchen.

Even when the ad has nothing to do with the topic of women in the kitchen. Because that is the first scene that comes to mind when thinking about the conservation of frogs.

 

  1. The one where she has to have masculine features to be strong.

How ever would she exude strength without those arms! It only makes sense that to be strong you have to have bulging muscles.

 

  1. The one where she loses an insane amount of weight in an unrealistic amount of time.

Because her weight before was soooo unhealthy! If it weren’t for these reliable and fast dieting tricks how would we make it!

 

  1. The one where the company lets us know us “real women” are, in fact beautiful too.

As if we didn’t know our real bodies were beautiful, they need to go out of their way to emphasize real, in fact, can be appreciated too! Thank you, I have been enlightened.

 

All jokes aside, men still rule the majority of authority and success roles in advertisements. In fact, in most ads, women are merely used a means to look pretty holding the product while men are the ones who end up using or consuming it. I have only been on this earth for nineteen short years, but I have seen enough to know that change is not easy. But when the majority of the population support injustice, change will never happen. Instead of buying products from and endorsing companies who belittle women, time money, and effort should be used to empower the rising generation of women. Because after all, the future is female.
