G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: Honors & Scholars students continuously cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences.

OIA Spring Break ’19 trip to Williamsburg, VA

During Spring Break 2019, I had the privilege of taking a trip to Williamsburg, VA, with through OSU’s Office of International Affairs (OIA).   OIA strives to integrate domestic and international students through shared experiences similar to this one.  This trip gave me the opportunity to meet and bond with students from all over the world, friends who I am still in touch with today.

Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community.

Engineering Group

OSU’s Engineering program allows students the opportunity of developing their own software game as an end-of-semester project.  My engineering group and I (pictured above) used our knowledge of MATLAB to research and code a computerized version of the classic card game “Go Fish”.  Read more about our project here.

Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.

Bally Sports Group Internship

Before switching my major to Electrical Engineering/Pre-Law in Fall 2019, I was double majoring in Finance/Information Systems.  This led me to spend Summer 2019 as a Finance intern at Bally Sports Group, where I was asked to design payroll spreadsheets for the company on Excel.  This opportunity broadened my knowledge of Microsoft Office, a valuable skill for both finance and engineering students alike.

Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.

Alaina, Tori, and Kelsey running an HCA program

I’m an Honors Community Advocate (HCA) at Lincoln Tower working alongside my team Tori (HCA) and Alaina (Honors Liaison).  As a second year OSU honors student, I serve as a peer mentor to first year honors students as they navigate coursework and campus life.   I work with the RAs, Hall Director, and Assistant Hall Director on campus to lead programs and excursions that benefit the Honors community in Lincoln Tower.

Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.

Buckeyethon Dance Marathon ’19

I’m a team captain for BuckeyeThon, “the largest student run philanthropy in the state of Ohio which raises funds and awareness for the Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Nationwide Children’s Hospital” (OSU Buckeyethon).  I recruit members for team Lincoln Love, and help to motivate and lead my team members through different fundraising events I organize.  I have helped to expand increase membership on my team by 100 students since last year, creating the biggest Buckeyethon team on campus.  I work alongside Buckeyethon General Body members (pictured above) and the families of children with pediatric cancer to raise awareness and help find a cure #ForTheKids!
