From the first barter exchanges between hunter-gatherer communities until the current economic crises, the movement of political economy has meant increasing separation from nature and the replacement of human community by relationships of exchange and domination. As capital comes into its own it becomes the dominant subject of the production process; more and more autonomous, a kind of Frankenstein, capital separates us from the world, ourselves and from each other.
