I am interested in examining the power relations in a classroom discussion and how these power relations evolve over time.

Having read a number of definitions of power, it seems like power can be everything. Some definitions of power appear to foreground the coercive aspect of power while others foreground the potential for cooperation and caring. What seems to me at issue is how to define and operationalize a definition of power, distinguishing it from other dynamics of social life, but still recognizing the power in one way or another permeates all aspects of social life.

Have others been thinking about this issue?
