Year in Review

The first semester in college has been an excting time full of new experiences and learning opprotunities. I’ve learned how to keep good study habits, however I know that there is still room for imporvement. I also gained lab exposure through the general chemistry laboratory and have participated in psychological experiments through Intro to Psychology. Through Biological Sciences Scholars I was able to connect with people that share the same interests as me, as well as learn about opprotunities on campus. I was also able to find volunteer opprotunities, such as volunteering for the Ohio House Rabbit Rescue, but plan to explore more ways to give back to the Columbus community. I also plan to build my resume further in the upcoming semester while continuing a rigorus acedemic path as well as learn more about myself as a student.

Oakland Animal Hospital is a vet clinic in my hometown. My senior year I was able to take an 8 week course with one of the veterinarian, Dr. Monica along with several students from my high school, aoakland animal hospitals well as from surrounding schools. I was able to see clinic work first hand as well as learn the prospective of an experienced vet. At the end of the session I was given the opportunity shadow a surgeon for a day and observe several types of surgeries including a knee surgery.

This opprotunity gave me helpful insite to the daily life as a vet, as well as gave me an opprotunity to meet others who shared my passion for animals. I look forward to exploring the possibility of a career with animals, and working with more verterinary clinics in the future.

About Me

Hello,

My name is Sydney Alda and I’m from Rochester Michigan. I am a first year Biological major, with a pre-med track, and am also part of the Biological Sciences Scholars program.50348c76-9fb1-4262-b1ec-444146473d5d

I spent most of my high school career focusing on the sciences. My most influential class was anatomy and physiology. Not only did the class itself teach me about the human body andinspire me to consider  a path towards medicine, but it allowed me to study at a veterinary clinic and learn more about animal biology and clinical work.

I chose to join the Bio Sci Scholars program because I was looking for a community of like minded people who were focued on the biological sciences. I knew Ohio State was a big school, and becoming part of a community from the start appealed to me. The program also offered many benefits which I knew would help me in the furture. I was inclined to chose the Biological Sciences program because I enjoy biology and wanted to be with others who shared my love for the study of living things.

I hope to grow as a student and narrow down the type of doctor I want to be through classes and research positions. I also hope to participate in volunteer work and join clubs and classes that expand my academic career as well as challenge myself to become a better student.

I’m looking forward to my first year at Ohio State! Go Bucks
