4-H Open House/Project Fair/Clvoerbud Event

We will be conducting our 4-H Open House/Project Fair/Cloverbud Event this Saturday, March 4 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Ramser 4-H Activity Center.  This is event is a trifecta.  It is an open house to attract new members and families to learn more about the Knox County 4-H program.  We will have all of the project books on display for members that are already a part of our program, to look through and try to find a new topic to explore on their journey this year.  And if you know of new members that are going to be Cloverbuds or have current Cloverbuds, Lindsey will be doing a make and take activity on pin wheels with them that morning.

We are still looking for:

  • Clubs to set up displays to attract new families to join 4-H.
  • Members to set up project displays so members and families can interact with them to learn more about what goes into a 4-H project.

Please reach out if you would like more information or would like to commit to set up on Saturday.

2023 4-H Open House

Premium Pick-Up, Club Packets, & Miscellaneous Projects

On September 1 from 3 to 7 p.m. will we be conducting Junior Fair Premium Pick-Up as well as Club Packet Pick-Up at the Ramser 4-H Activity Center.  We are requesting that each club send on representative during that time frame to pick up those items.

With the premium pick-up we will have a list of what each member will receive for easy distribution.  If you have members that went through the sale, we will also have a detailed copy of their sale slip so they know all their buyers, potential add-ons, and what deductions were made.

Club packets will be available from Jana that will have ribbons and any Farm Bureau t-shirts that were not picked up at the fair.

We still have miscellaneous projects that were displayed at the fair that still have not been picked up.  Those we will also be available that day.

2021 Family Guide is Available Online

Have you started thinking about the 2021 4-H year?  If so, you can start picking your projects too by browsing the new Family Guide.

This edition of the Family Guide has some important changes:

  • Please take a look at the idea starters on page 29. Instead of having their own enrollment numbers, each idea starter is assigned to a topic area that corresponds to a self-determined class at state fair. The idea is to make it easier to select delegates for those hard-to-keep-track-of state fair classes. If a county mimics these fair classes, even if they are judged by one person, it should be easier to extend state fair opportunities. Members doing their own self-determined projects—as opposed to using an idea starter—enroll in the topic area that is the best fit.
  • The Project Guide in the back now includes a column for “multi-year” projects, those non-livestock project books intended to take more than one year to complete. Assuming they complete a project as intended, members can enroll for the number of years indicated and continue to use the same project book. These are mostly project books from National 4-H, but we have a few of our own, like Family History Treasure Hunt and Ohio Birds.

New Idea Starter for Self-Determined Project

A new idea starter called My Stay-at-Home Summer. Full of ideas for hands-on learning, this project shows 4-H members the way . . . to contribute to the lives of those around them, to make the best of new and different situations, and to recognize these momentous times. Many thanks to author Beth Guggenbiller, Mercer County, for the fresh take and creative reminder about what it means to be in 4-H.
