Ohio Military Kids Camp Counselor Application Live

The 2024 Ohio Military Kids Camp Counselor Application is LIVE!!! Please advertise to your camp counselors if they would like an opportunity to counsel at a statewide level. They DO NOT have to have a military affiliation to apply to be a camp counselor!

CAMP COUNSELOR DATES for 2024:

  • Teen Leadership Camp (campers ages 13-17) – June 5 – June 9 with virtual staff training. Counselors must be 18+
  • Teen Camp (campers ages 12-15) – July 28 – August 1 with mandatory staff training on July 26-28. Counselors must be 16+
  • Youth Camp (campers ages 9-11) – August 4 + August 8 with mandatory staff training on August 2-4. Counselors must be 15+
  • In-Person Counselor Training: Thursday, June 13, 2024 in Columbus, OH

OVERVIEW of camp counselor descriptions

  • Counselor in Training: Only eligible to counselors at youth camp. You have never been a camp counselor before, but you may have attended OMK Camp Kelleys Island in the past. You will be paired with a returning camp counselor for cabin assignments.
  • New Counselor: Eligible for counseling at Youth or Teen Camp, pending your age – must be at least 16 to counsel at Teen Camp. You have never been a counselor for OMK Camp Kelleys Island, but you have experience working with youth in other settings that may include 4-H, scouts, or youth groups.
  • Returning Counselor: Eligible for counseling at Teen Leadership Camp, Kelleys Island Youth Camp, or Kelleys Island Teen Camp, pending your age. You have been a counselor for OMK Camp Kelleys Island in the past.

The Ohio Military Kids program has its 2024 Summer Camp dates!

Our camps are available to:

  • Any military family is eligible regardless of rank.
  • Veteran’s children and families are eligible 12 months past date of separation.
  • Any branch and component is welcome.
  • Gold Star Families are eligible.

OHIO MILITARY KIDS SUMMER CAMPS

ANY military connected youth may attend these camps.

Teen Kelleys Island Camp

A 5-day and 4-night adventure on Kelleys Island. Activities include sailing, swimming, rafting, kayaking, volleyball, soccer, archery, lined dances, crafts, campfire, and more!

Dates: Sunday, July 30 to Thursday, August 3

Location: Kelleys Island

Age: 12 – 15 years of age by the time of camp

Cost: $125 per youth

Deadline: 11:59 pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2023

Youth Kelleys Island Camp

A 5-day and 4-night adventure on Kelleys Island. Activities include sailing, swimming, rafting, kayaking, volleyball, soccer, archery, lined dances, crafts, campfire, and more!

Dates: Sunday, August 6 to Thursday, August 10

Location: Kelleys Island

Age: 9 – 11 years of age by the time of camp

Cost: $125 per youth

Deadline: 11:59 pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2023

OHIO MILITARY KIDS FALL FAMILY CAMPS

ANY military connected families may attend these camps.

Northeastern Ohio Family Camp

Join us for a fun-filled Troop & Family Camp this fall! Any military family is eligible to participate. Nestled between a hollow and historical orchards, this camp has a beautiful lodge, cabins, a lake, and a wooded campfire area available for camp use. Hiking trails and canoeing may be available.

Dates: Friday, August 25 to Sunday, August 27

Location: Northeastern Ohio

Cost: $125 for 4, $10 per person after

Deadline: 11:59 pm on Sunday, July 16, 2023

Northern Ohio Family Camp

Join us for a fun-filled Troop & Family Camp this fall! Any military family is eligible to participate. This camp is located in a unique island setting, has cabins, a sand beach, craft hall, recreation hall, and campfire areas. This small island location offers historic parks, a scenic ferry ride, and a beautiful coastline.

Dates: Friday, September 8 to Sunday, September 10

Location: Northern Ohio

Cost: $125 for 4, $10 per person after

Deadline: 11:59 pm on Sunday, July 16, 2023

Central Ohio Family Camp

Join us for a fun-filled Troop & Family Camp this fall! Any military family is eligible to participate. This camp has more than 500 acres to explore, high & low ropes courses, cabins, climbing, ziplining, and recreational areas. Activities may include creeking, tie-dye, leather crafts, and more!

Dates: Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24

Location: Central Ohio

Cost: $125 for 4, $10 per person after

Deadline: 11:59 pm on Sunday, July 16, 2023

2022 Ohio Military Kids Camp Counselors Needed

OMK Camp Counselors NEEDED

We are looking for camp counselors to join us this summer as we host military youth from all over the state. The great success of this camp lies in the awesome experience that camp counselors provide for military youth where they can learn, grow, and build friendships with other military youth in a fun and safe environment. This is an opportunity for those who love camp but have aged out of their county 4-H program and those who are ready for new experiences beyond their county.

Our Youth and Teen camps will operate on SEPARATE dates at the Erie County 4-H Camp  on Kelleys Island:

  • TEEN CAMP (ages 12 to 15): August 1-5 (mandatory on-site camp counselor training July 30 & 31)
  • YOUTH CAMP (ages 9 to 11): August 7-11 (mandatory on-site camp counselor training August 5-7)

2020 News for 4-H and Ohio Military Kids

Here’s to the start of new decade for Ohio Military Kids! This will be a year of appreciation as we embrace 2020 with open minds and big hearts. We extend our appreciation to those past, present, and future who contribute time and efforts to support the increasing number of military-affiliated youth served by OMK.

Ohio Military Kids is a partnership with Ohio State University Extension 4-H Youth Development and Ohio National Guard Family Readiness. This partnership allows us to put on numerous events around the state of Ohio. From overnights, daylong programs, weekend camps, and even a week-long camp, these events are open to youth of military families. 4-H older youth and adults can volunteer for OMK events, including as camp counselors in the summer!

 With our event season approaching, we are all excited to embrace the new year of 2020! Ohio Military Kids just launched their first wave of events for March and April. On our website, we have posted our 2018 Year in Review video. This video highlights some of our biggest memories and experiences from the last year. Our 2019 scheduled events are also updated on our website!  

Do you know camp counselors who are looking for another opportunity to serve? The OMK Program is looking for qualified candidates for Camp Kelleys Island in August of 2019. Applications are linked here to our website and are due by February 15, 2019. 

We also have several opportunities for people to volunteer and support our program. There are events starting in April and goes throughout the entire summer and most of the fall. Please visit our website to see these opportunities.

Ohio Military Kids Events for 2018

Spring is here! That means Ohio Military Kids events are starting for the 2018 season. Ohio Military Kids is a partnership between Ohio State Extension 4-H Youth Development and Family Readiness with Ohio National Guard. Through this partnership, Ohio Military Kids puts on events all around the state of Ohio. These events range from one day events, to overnights, to weekend camps, and weeklong residential camps.

If you are a part of a military family, please consider joining one of our many events. All active, reserve, and national guard families are welcome!

  • April 14: Hero Camp, Science Day in Southwest Ohio
  • June 2: Hero Camp, Equestrian Program in Northeast Ohio
  • June 6 to 10: Teen Leadership Camp in Central Ohio
  • June 23: Family Day at the Zoo in Northwest Ohio
  • June 23 to 24: Family Overnight Northwest Ohio
  • June 29 to July 1:  Teen Leadership Weekend Northwest Ohio
  • June 30 to July 1: Family Overnight Northeastern Ohio
