2019 Knox County 4-H and Junior Fair Equine Updates

Equine Advisors,

In the last few months and at our February meeting we have implemented some changes for 2019.  We want to make sure that we are all on the same page and that everyone is getting the same information.  We ask at your next club meeting you go over all this with members and parents so there is no confusion.

Equine Royalty

  • Name change: Equine Junior Ambassador and Senior Ambassador
  • Adding: Draft Horse Ambassador
  • There will no longer be a riding portion to determine who will be ambassador for each level.
  • Competition will be based solely off of their interview, skill-a-thon and test scores.

ABC Book Judging

  • Will not be held at the fair.
  • It will be BEFORE fair with all other livestock book judgings on July 8 and July 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mount Vernon High School.

4-H Paperwork

  • Now that the changes have been discussed and accepted, the paperwork for 2019 is in the process of being changed.
  • Packets will be available from our office starting on March 1. Please let Andrea know how many packets you will need.
  • Paperwork will be due to the OSU Extension office by May 1 by 5 p.m.

Online Sign-Up for Fair Classes

  • There will be online sign up at ABC Book Judging for classes.
  • Kids will be asked to do the sign up while waiting to complete ABC judging.
  • They will be able to sign up day of the show but it will be need to be completed one hour before show start time to get entries into the books.

Sign-Ups at the Fair

  • Dressage, Fun Show and Exhibition sign up will be done at the fair.
  • Contest Challenge, Versatility and Mini Versatility will be Saturday of move in and money will be due at that time.

Fundraising

  • There is now Sponsor a Rider fundraiser. It is $25 and they will get their name on a banner.
  • If a member secures this sponsorship, they need to put their name at the bottom of the sheet and this will cover them for participating in Versatility and Contest Challenge (they will not have to pay the $10)
  • Fence contract information is out and clubs can work on securing their contracts for this year. All contracts need to be turned in no later than May 1. Any after this date will be put on for 2020.

First Year Exhibitor Clinic

  • All first year equine exhibitors must attend this clinic that is scheduled for April 7.
  • We will be in the Senior Fair Board office for the start then move to arena after for hands on portion.
  • This is required for ALL first year members but all exhibitors are welcome.

Clinics

  • We will be having Clinics this year and a few dates are filled and advisors have that information in the Committee binders

Friday Night Fun Shows

  • We will be having Friday Night Fun Shows again for 2019.
  • Dates will be sent out at a later date when we have them set

I hope I have covered everything from the meeting. Thank you for all the clubs who had a representative at the meeting and it makes our jobs 100 times easier.
