2018 TSC Fall Paper Clover Campaign

It’s time for the Fall TSC 4-H Paper Clover campaign! Visit TSC at 1401 Coshocton Avenue, Mount Vernon (740-397-9012) and purchase a paper clover to show your support for 4-H in Knox County. 90% of funds raised come back to Ohio and Knox County to support scholarships for camp and leadership activities. The TSC Paper Clover event runs now through October 14.

Camp Ohio Adventure 5K Trail Run/Walk

A fun time is to be had by all on November 10, 2018 in the beautiful hills of Camp Ohio 4-H camp in St. Louisville, OH.  Wind your way past the wetlands and campfire then along snake trail for a sprint to the top of Vesper’s Hill.  Meander past the shooting range and pond where you’ll head back to main camp for the finish.  All proceeds this year to go toward camp updates/improvements. After the race we will hold an awards ceremony in the dining hall with an optional lunch immediately following.

Location: 4-H Camp Ohio, 11461 Camp Ohio Road, St. Louisville, OH 43071

Registration: Pre-register online at www.campohioadventure.com or fill out this form and mail it to Camp Ohio Adventure, P.O. Box 282, Mt. Gilead, OH 43338.  Race day registration will be available in the Camp Ohio rec hall at 9:00 am.

Entry Fees: Pre-registration by October 20

  • 18 & Under $15
  • 19 & Up $20

Lunch $10 per person

Race Time: Check-in will start at 9:00 am. The race will start at 10:00 am.

Awards: Medals will be awarded to the first 3 overall finishers and the top 3 men and women in 6 age categories.

T-Shirts: Quick dry t-shirts will be guaranteed to all participants registered by October 20, 2018.

Those registered after October 20, 2018 will NOT be guaranteed a t-shirt.

2018 Carving New Ideas

This great opportunity for 4-H youth in grades eight through twelve. Many teens are looking for fun camping opportunities so here is a perfect opportunity that they can come to and not have to go through a selection process. They can just come and have fun!

Open to 8th-12th grade 4-H members, Carving New Ideas is a camping opportunity for older youth, concentrating on the principles of critical thinking and program facilitation. This year’s theme is CSI at CNI. All the fun will center around mystery and investigation while enhancing leadership skills.

More 2018 Ohio State Fair Recognition

Ohio State Fair Mini Horse Show

  • Samantha Webb showed Spirit and hey placed 4th in Hunter Jumper at the Ohio State Fair in the small equine class.  They also placed 4th in Jumper small equine class.
  • Arwen Furnis and Diamond Glitter placed 5th in Hunter Jumper small equine and Grand Champion in small equine Trail in Hand at the Ohio state fair.

2018 Ohio Forestry & Wildlife Camp

The third annual 2018 Forestry and Wildlife Camp is being offered Friday, September 14 – Sunday, September 16 at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp in Jackson, Ohio.  The first 40 registrants will be able to go for $35.  Once those spaces are filled the cost will increase to $77.  The deadline is September 7, 2018 or until camp is full.  This camp allow participants (ages 12-18) to try new and exciting challenges, learn about and appreciate the natural world around them, while meeting experts in the field of forestry and wildlife conservation.

2018 Air Pistol League

Summer is rolling to an end and it is time to get ready for the indoor air pistol season.  We will be kicking off our league the week after Labor Day weekend on Tuesday, September 11th.   Ricks Sporting Goods located at 1326 Newark Rd in Mount Vernon has graciously allowed us to use their archery range and our portable pellet trap.  There is a flyer attached that covers more detailed information on the league.  Please pass it on to anyone who may have interest, we are particularly interested in attracting youth into the sport.

More Results from the 2018 Ohio State Fair

Knox County was well represented at the Dairy Market Feeder Show during the 2018 Ohio State Fair.

  • Sierra Shields had Overall Grand Champion
  • Alex Annett had Overall Reserve Grand Champion.
  • Alexis Bostick was 4th Place Overall
  • Knox Countians won 7 of the 9 classes offered. Also showing were Ethan Swendal and Hannah Vaughn.
  • Amanda Annett won Senior Showmanship
  • Alex Annett won Junior Showmanship

During the Dairy Show at the Ohio State Fair, Audrey Bouton placed first in her class with her Junior Two-Year Old Holstein.

During the Junior Horse Show at the Ohio State Fair:

  • Raven Clagg was awarded Grand Champion for Barrels in the 14-18 year old division
  • Erika Conant was awarded Reserve Grand Champion for Stakes Race in the 14-18 year old division

During the Ohio State Fair Goat Skillathon:

  • Madeline Elfrink placed 5th overall in her age division
  • Catherine Elfrink placed 1st place overall in her age division

2018 Ohio State Fair Results

Congratulations to the following youth who received awards during the 2018 Ohio State Fair with non-livestock projects:

  • Jack Fowler – Tune It Up (Small Engines)
  • Tess Shultz – From Airedales to Zebras (Veterinary Science)
  • Zechariah Sprayberry – Finishing Up (Woodworking)

These individuals will be recognized during our year-end recognition on September 24.
