2024 Still Project Requirements

All 4-H families should have received Still Project requirements via email last week. Just in case they were not received, all still project requirements for 2024 are here as well. Please check with your advisor if you have questions, or feel free to stop into the OSU extension office. The office is open 8am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday, or call 740-397-0401.

2024 Still Project Requirements

4-H Booth Building Sign-ups

Booth Building Sign-ups

The Booth building is the place to showcase non-livestock, or Still projects. It’s an important part of the duties for 4-H clubs to make sure projects on display are cared for, promote 4-H, and maintain the building. As an expectation to remain a club in good standing, there are sign-ups this year to booth patrol.

While we are still working on some details, the overall duties of booth patrol include:

  • Maintaining tidiness in the building
    • Sweeping, trash pick up
    • Observe Cloverbud activities (if present) in the building
  • Guarding project displays and booths
  • Assisting patrons with voting for booth awards
  • Representing a positive image of 4-H
  • Answering questions, engaging fairgoers
  • Assisting in care of the Show Share Closet (lock password)
  • Keeping count of the number of visitors to the building

Also, 4-H clubs interested in having a booth at the fair: please email Lindsey (vangundy.44@osu.edu) your intent to have a booth. If enough interest is generated, we may be to construct some booths on July 16. Otherwise, clubs having a booth may set up their booths on July 17 between 3:00-8:00pm. Clubs with booths are permitted to check in projects during set-up day, July 17. Based on JFB, the theme will be Red, White, and MOO!

Booths may be constructed around your club’s interpretation of the theme title. Electric is not available for displays/decorations. Permanent alternation of the booth area is not permitted. Any staples used are the responsibility of the club to remove!! Voting will occur Saturday-Tuesday for People’s Choice Award. Banners will be given to People’s Choice top two club booths.

Cloverbud Engineering Adventures

Let’s get some teams together for the 2024 Cloverbud Engineering Adventure! Teams consist of 2-8 Cloverbuds, an exhibit built from interlocking bricks (i.e. Legos) and a poster about their project. The state showcase is June 29 at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus. See the flyer below for all the details!

Cost: There is no cost for clubs to register, however you have the option to purchase a brick kit from the state office. These kits are about $170 (after scholarship request) and include several mechanical pieces. Anything you have at home is fine to use. Base plates should be 15×15 inches.

Deadline to register: April 19, 2024.

Knox County Junior Leaders

Knox County Junior Leaders (JL) is a great stepping stone for older 4-H youth looking to get involved beyond their local club. Junior Leaders will participate in various meetings, learning opportunities and events while also enjoying the comradery of their peers. The JLs are just as much about connecting and having fun as it is learning life skills. This is great way for youth to “practice” leadership roles before diving into an intense commitment like Junior Fair Board or Camp Counselors. JLs are 4-H members of good standing  in 7-12 grade. JL participation looks great on award and ambassador applications for both county and state level. The application link below details more perks of JL membership.

We will be having a winter mixer on Dec 29, 6:00-8:00pm at the Ramser Center. Pizza and board games will be provided for this fun, relaxed meet-and-greet event. Any 4-Her, in grades 7-12, is invited!! Feel free to bring a favorite game with you!

While not required for the meet-and-greet, those interested can go ahead and fill out the application to be a JL using the link below.

Legos at the Library Open House Dec 6

Partnering with the library, we will be hosting an informational meeting about the programs available through 4-H and the library for little Lego builders! Programs include Cloverbud Engineering Adventure, the Cloverbud state-wide showcase, and getting involved with the brick building group at the Mt Vernon public library. We encourage youth in grades K-5 to attend with and emphasis on Cloverbuds (grades K-2).

Fall Recognition Reception 2023

Please join us at the Mount Vernon Middle School on November 9, 2023 to celebrate the accomplishments of the Knox County 4-Hers! Please arrive at 6:30pm with a dessert to share so we can recognize county projects awards, older youth membership, state fair participants, and Cloverbud graduation. Dress is casual for this family friendly event.

Colorful Cute Music Themed Calendar of Events Flyer (1)

We are in need of some volunteers to lend a hand with the upcoming Cloverbud Activities. Older youth (grades 7 and up) are welcome to volunteer! This is an great way to add some leadership or community service experiences in their project books for 2024! Future Camp Counselors looking for hours are encouraged to reach out!  Activities will already be planned and prior experience isn’t needed: we will need hands to help run the activities. Each event will  need 4-6 volunteers. These events are open to any Cloverbud age child, prior 4-H membership isn’t required.

Oct 25 – Trunk-or-Treat : pass out treats/candy, assist with archery equipment, range safety, costumes are a plus!

Nov 11 – Veteran’s Day : seeking veterans to assist in round- robin type activities: flag folding, pledge, reading books, making thank you cards, etc.

Dec 14 – Winter Weather : emergency survival, snowflakes, weather, winter treats, etc.

Please contact Lindsey (vangundy.44@osu.edu) for more information, or to confirm for an event.
