Creation process:
First I took a panorama of Thompson Library and found a picture my friend took for me when we were in Philadelphia. After putting the panorama into photoshop, first, resize the picture to make the length equals to the width and invert the picture so that it’s upside down. Then in the filter, choose distort and make it polar. Finally, I use the clone stamp to make the four distorted sides smooth. Then deal with the picture of myself. First, choose the one with the most contrast and use the burn tool to make the edge explicit. Use the brush tool to color the background white and the body black and by choosing reverse, the body part is chosen. Then go back to original mode and copy the picture. Paste the picture on the polar one and create a new layer to make a shadow.
Question:
1. Does space have a personality? Does it leave an impression or evoke a feeling? Why? How?
I think a space has a personality. We have memories of places we did something and the emotions at that time. I think those emotions and the functions of the place determine the personality of the space in my mind. For example, I always go to Thompson Library for my final review, so the personality of Thompson Library is a serious place for reviewing finals, writing papers and doing homework.
2. How are you relate to your space? Are you connected/disconnected to your space?
The panorama I took is in front of Thompson Library and I like going to this library to use photoshop or other softwares and do some homework. Thompson library is a place I really like as it’s so beautiful and quiet so that I can focus on what I am doing. I feel like in this tiny world picture, I’m disconnected to this space because of the color of the clothes I wear the the color of the snow which makes the picture looks really white. I don’t know how to change the color partially so I cannot make the color uniform.
