I did a small quiz from PayScale to find what kind of jobs are suitable for me. It was surprising that the two jobs shown out were both what I was looking for. The two jobs fit me are Landscape Designer and Interior Designer. Both two jobs need imagination and creativity, and I like these kind of jobs because they are not boring and changeless. I expect my job and my life to be in harmony and full of enthusiasm in the future. When I am designing, I can put everything beautiful and wonderful from my brain into my work. The quiz had a question “ Do you want to be a boss”, I choice “ Yes”. It is because I do not like the feeling of restraint. I look forward to a free and leisure life. However, on the other side I am wiling to struggle with anxiety cause I love the design occupations and I can treat the anxiety as motivation and willpower.

My intended major is Math, I think there is a relationship between designer and Math. A designer is a rigorous work and requires no data errors, so Math can help me do more accurately in design. However there are still many differences, for example I cannot learn theoretical knowledge about design from Math. I think if I study architectonics in my university, it will help me more in the two occupations.

Landscape design involves horticultural fitness and expertise, usually focuses more on urban planning, city and regional parks. Although the salary is not very high, I care more about the level of satisfaction than the salary. In data in the photo above shows that the percentage of job satisfaction is 67% which is comparatively high. Also the Job stress is about 40% which means I have more disposable free time. PayScale website data shows that the experience does not influence the salary too much.

Interior designer has almost double salary of landscaper designer’s and I am very pleased with this salary. If I have more experience, my salary will increase. Also, the job satisfaction is 88% which is much higher than landscaper designer’s and the job stress is 16% which is much lower than landscaper designer’s. Compared these two factions, I prefer interior designer. Interior designer’s job is to plan and choose the colors, materials, furniture etc for the inside buildings or people’s houses. I imagine if I successfully help people to design a beautiful house, I would have a sense of achievement and have motivation to design the next.

About my family and hometown

My name is Zhu Lingyun, I’m an eighteen-year-old girl from Jiangsu China. My hometown is Wuxi, a quaint and peaceful city. Wuxi is well known for the beautiful Tai Lake, I used to watch sunset with my parents by Tai Lake. Wuxi is a city surrounded by waters and mountains, which provides a quiet environment for people. I like Wuxi very much because I am a person who pursues a relatively quiet place to live.

In my family, my mother and father are both kind and patient to me, they respect each choice I made and try their best to support me. I have a cousin who is also studying at the Ohio State University. My first impression on OSU derives from the description by my cousin. She mentioned the beautiful campus, especially in winter, and her words attracted my attention from then on. So this became a small factor that why I selected OSU. It is worth mentioning that, my parents and I all like keeping pets, and in my home there are three dogs and one cat. I enjoy the time playing with them, and I spend a lot of time and effort to take care of them.

My Habits

Playing badminton is my favorite sport, each week, I spend more than one day to practice badminton. Besides, I like playing guitar. Jay Zhou is my favorite pop signer, and in my free time, I like playing his songs. I started to play guitar when I was fifteen year old. At the beginning, I thought it really rough to keep going because I need a lot of time to practice one single and boring song over and over again. However, my mother always stayed with me and encouraged me during those difficult days. Through unremitting efforts, I finally get somewhere in several youth guitar competitions.

My international high school

When I was a child, I was already interested in life abroad. In my imagination, America is a friendly, beautiful and free country. So I set a goal to study abroad from childhood. I studied in Wuxi No.1 High School. In my international high school, I had a chance to make friends with my foreign teachers, they have a fine sense of humour and sometimes tell interesting stories in their career. Because of one of my foreign teachers, I have a passion in various extra-curricular activities such as climbing, playing badminton and volunteering. He taught me how to enrich my life. I like participating in different activities, which become the reason why I selected OSU. OSU provides its students various activities to participate in a team to strengthen its team members’ sense of cooperation, communication, and contribution. Moreover, some extracurricular parties will also add my chances to meet people from another countries and make me more out-going. I want to be excellent not only in my academic field but also in my daily social life.

As an OSU student…

The biggest reason I select OSU is the enthusiasm and team spirit I feel from OSU students. I once had a chance to visit the Ohio State University when I was in high school. It made me surprised when a person say “O-H”, people around shout in at one voice “I-O” immediately. This scene is unusual in China, so I was attracted by people’s vitality at that time. In addition, people in Ohio are all very kind and helpful. It was my first time to go abroad, and I was scared and unfamiliar to foreigners’ life. However, after one day, I found I did not need to be worried, people were all kind to help you and teach you how to adapt to new environment. After the short days in Columbus, I found I was completely in love with this city, so I decided to work hard to go to Ohio State University. Now, I fulfill my wish to go to OSU and have been in OSU for more than four months. I learn how to fit my style of living to college circumstances. Also, I decide to study Math as my major after careful consideration. Math has been as my favorite subject since I was young and also will be my pursuit in the future. This subject focuses on logic, speculation and deliberation and I enjoy the process of exploring. I wish I could gain more skills and knowledge about Math after my four-year study.
