G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I hope to foster a global perspective and an open mind by participating in numerous cultural clubs, signing up for study abroad programs, and take classes that expand my knowledge of different cultures. I am currently in numerous cultural associations such as the Chinese American Student Association (CASA), Korean Student Association (KSA) and the Taiwanese American Student Association (TASA). I am Chinese, but through these clubs, I have gotten to not only learn about different Asian cultures, but I have also gotten to know mine better. We have had authentic food festivals for KSA and CASA, one of which being Bingsoo night (authentic Korean ice cream).

Original Inquiry:  I haven’t yet started my inquiry search, but I do plan on participating in research during my undergraduate years. I am on a pre-dental track, therefore I would like to qualify for a research facility during my sophomore summer. I believe lab experiences will greatly help me determine whether this is the correct path for me to take and would guide me in understanding more about the profession I am seeking.

Academic Enrichment: I am currently in the OSU Honors program, which means I am capable of taking Honors courses. Currently I am taking Chem 1210, Biology 1113, and Behavioral Psychology 3313H. I really enjoy the Honors Psychology class since we delve much deeper into topics that wouldn’t have been covered in the regular Psychology course. By taking the Honors version of the class I am showing my commitment to strive for the best. I’ve declared my major as Neuroscience because I am able to cover all my classes needed for Dental School, while still learning about human neurology and psychology which is something I am very interested in. I am also thinking of minoring in CIS since computer science is also very intriguing to me. I plan on taking the first CS class offered this coming spring semester (CSE 2123) which will be teaching coding in Java.

Leadership Engagement: I had previously held a treasurer position of a cultural club in High school, but I am still searching for an organization that I would love to devote my time and effort towards. I think leadership is very important for those seeking a Dental profession since you must be confident and reassuring in front of your patients.

Service Engagement: In addition to the Cultural clubs that I mentioned above, I am also in Big Buckeye Little Buckeye (BBLB) which is a volunteer organization that helps mainly underprivileged children from Asian backgrounds. There is a stereotype in our USA society that portrays Asian Americans as generally more successful and hard working. But there are still many Asian American families that are struggling just as much as anyone else, and those are the families targeted by BBLB.

About Me

Hello, my name is Lucas Zhang and I’m majoring in Neuroscience with a Pre-Dental track. I really enjoy microbiology and chemistry. I hope to graduate OSU and go onto Dental School. For hobbies I enjoy swimming, playing basketball, gaming, and reading. A personal goal I have is to try out many of the clubs that OSU offers and find a couple I really like.
