About Me

Hello, I am Rosemary Zaleski! It is currently my first year at Ohio State University, but I already love it here. Before coming to Columbus, I went to Strongsville High School in Strongsville, Ohio, which is also my hometown. I graduated in the top 5% of my class and was able to gain quite a few college credit hours through AP classes as well as college credit programs though schools like Cleveland State University and Cuyahoga Community College. I am grateful to my high school community, including teachers and peers, for their help in guiding my academic career.

Here at Ohio State, I am majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Mathematics. I enjoy the coursework of science and math, as well as the unique thought processes that are associated with them. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Ohio State, I plan to attend a Master degree program at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. This program, the Master of Science in Anesthesia, will allow me to gain both classroom and hands-on training to become a certified anesthesiologist assistant. After shadowing an anesthesiologisy assistant in high school, I knew that such a career could allow me to utilize my scientific and mathematical skills on a daily basis while also helping others in a healthcare setting.

At Ohio State, I am currently involved in OSU Pen PALS, a group that matches up Ohio State students with elementary students from Columbus City Schools and we write to them every other week. In addition, at the end of the school year, the children visit Ohio State’s campus to learn more about the college experience. I also participated in Ohio State’s Community Commitment, an annual volunteering event that allows hundreds of students to volunteer at different sites. This year, I volunteered at a community garden in a poverty-stricken neighborhood. Despite the condition of the neighborhood, the garden and other attempts to help the area has had many positive effects, inlcuding a reduction in crime and a rise in home values. Further, I am on the student planning committee for APIDA Heritage Month. The APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) Heritage month celebrates those of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Indian descent, as well as other cultures. I am half-Asian and half-Caucasian, but APIDA makes me feel welcome even if I am not one full ethnicity. I am also a Choose Ohio First Scholar, associated with the Ohio House of Science and Engineering. Starting next semester, though the OHSE, I will be able to travel to various Columbus City Schools and either perform labs with elementary students or tutor middle and high school students. I plan to become more involved in clubs and activities at Ohio State, but not too much that I become overwhelmed.

When I’m not studying, I enjoy multiple leisure activities. In high school, I played golf for my high school team, earning my varsity letter all four years. Though I do not play competitively anymore, I still enjoy going to the driving range or playing 18 holes every now and then. I also enjoy watching football, both NFL and NCAA. I love the Green Bay Packers, and of course my favorite college team is the Buckeyes. I also spend times with my friends playing various card and board games, and we even have a group that gets together when we can to play.

If you have read this far about me, then congratulations! Though this is a brief snapshot in my life, I still think it can express a lot about me. As you browse through my e-Portfolio, I hope I can convey my true self as well as my aspirations.
