By: Stephanie Karhoff
This past Friday, January 17th was the 2020 Fulton County Corn-Soybean Day. Featured topics included field drainage, pigweed biology, behavioral science, corn nematodes, 2018 Farm Bill, fumigation, and managing soybean cyst nematode.
In case you missed it, or have additional questions, you may find my presentation slides for “CORE Pesticide Update and Managing SCN” by clicking here.
For pesticide applicators, make note of the following:
- Annual training is required for the over-the-top use of Xtendimax, Engenia, FeXapan, and Tavium on dicamba-tolerant crops, as is two year retention of all records. Online training is available at pested.osu.edu/DicambaRestriction.
- Paraquat training is required every three years, and is available at campus.extension.org.
- Check all labels for toxicity to non-target organisms. If label indicates toxicity towards bees, you are required to contact local beekeepers at least 24 hours before application, if target area is greater than .5 acre and crop is flowering. You may obtain a list of registered beekeepers at 614-728-6406.
- Drift is the most frequent complaint to Ohio Dept. of Agriculture – use FieldWatch tool to locate sensitive areas prior to application.
