Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

[ “G.O.A.L.S.” is a place where students write about how their planned, current, and future activities may fit into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement. For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Delete these instructions and add your own post.

Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc .
Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.

Artifacts

This presentation addresses the pros, cons, and efficiency of wind turbines. It also talks about how a wind turbine works and what is planned for the future in wind energy. I was able to learn more about wind turbines, how to find and cite quality resources, and how to work with a team to complete the project by the required deadline. This project was useful because I was able to practice teamwork, which is an important part of being an engineer, and I was able to practice presenting something to a group of people. The experience gained from this will be helpful in the future and I was able to gain extra knowledge on a topic that I was previously less knowledgeable on.

About Me

IMG_0253

I grew up in Sidney, Ohio, which is a small city a hour north of Dayton. I spent pretty much my whole life there and went to Holy Angels school/parish and later to Lehman Catholic High School. In high school I played soccer and tennis for all four years and I played basketball through my parish with several of my classmates from Lehman, also for four years. My senior year of soccer was probably the best. I was one of the captains of the team and the team did pretty good. In school I made sure I got good grades. I tried to get involved in several groups and do what I could, and as a result my schedule could get pretty hectic between the sports, academics, piano (6-12 grade), and other activities. I have leaned towards a career in engineering for a long time. I had always done well in math and science, I understood it fairly easily most of the time, and I was told that engineering would be a good choice for me. I can be pretty particular and exact and I like knowing how things work to a certain extent, so engineering is a great fit since it has so many different areas. My goals in college are to keep up my good grades and to develop myself into someone who is ready for the real world both in knowledge and experience. I am not one hundred percent sure on my specific engineering profession, but I would like a job that provides a little bit of a variety. I do not want to be doing the same exact work, but rather something that will allow me to use creative problem solving on many different projects.

After a semester at The Ohio State University, I have begun to lean towards Mechanical Engineering. It has a wide variety of career paths and I like the design aspect of ME. I really like my time here and I have been shown just how hard college really is. Intramural soccer was fun and I like that I can go play tennis and basketball almost whenever I want. RPAC is pretty nice too. I hope to join more groups over my time here and to become more involved as well as decide what I want to do with the rest of my life.
