Artifact 2

Doing Casual Art Again

Recently, I have found myself to be less creative and motivated in my classes because of all the rules and criteria involved in design. I decided I needed balance in the things I create, so I began setting aside time for me to make my own art again that doesn’t relate to classes. Creating art freely and for myself helps me in my design classes because my creativity is getting exercise in a place with both rules and no rules. Creating art is what inspires me most so I’ve began to use it as a self-care step AND a way to better my performance in class.

Creative Learning

The first few months of design have been nothing but fulfilling and exciting. I’m excited for a type of learning that I can apply my strengths to. I feel like I can do a lot of good with this major for the environment.

This is the first model that we made and it was exciting to get a good foundation on 3D forms.

G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: My main priority right now is really politics. It is very stressful yet it is so exciting to think about all the good the younger generation is doing. I’m excited to continue learning about global politics so I can help.
  • Original Inquiry: I’m in a design research class right now! We’re doing an in depth semester long mock research over human factors and usability with the LEGO brand!
  • Academic Enrichment: I’m starting to learn more in depth things this year like CAD and all these new softwares. I spend a lot of time out of the classroom just watching tutorials and learning the software pathways. It’s hard to keep up with! Especially knowing that you don’t just have to know the software, you have to be creative with the software
  • Leadership Development: As mentioned earlier, I’m in a mock research project right now. I feel like group work is some of the best ways to work on leadership and accountability.
  • Service Engagement: I’m doing my year of service with the Compeer Circle of Friends. For now they are a facebook group of friends that come together to form new friendships with each other. This group boosts self love and being there for others. Before COVID, they would often meet in person and hang out in person and do things like have cookouts and do painting sessions.
