Design

Addie process - DesignI draw on theory to inform my instructional design strategy, delivery method, training structure, and instructional practice. The two examples below show how I’ve used activity theory and constructivism in instructional design.

FORMAL INSTRUCTION
Funded by a grant from Ohio State’s Office of Continuing Education, the Fundamentals of Teaching Adults Online course is based on activity theory. This PDF of a page from the course explains how activity theory informed the course design.

NONFORMAL INSTRUCTION
Our knowledge-building model was developed after years of research into how adults learn collaboratively. The model served as the foundation for workshop for the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program Annual Trainer Conference. This workshop outline for Using Technology to Build Knowledge-Sharing Communities draws heavily on the knowledge-building model. Many knowledge-building tools were shared and demonstrated in the complete presentation.
