The analysis and comparisons of the two jobs

After getting the results from http://www.payscale.com/data-packages/best-jobs of “what job is best for me?” I found out that in this list of 10 jobs, 2 of them are about Law, 2 of them are about Computer Science, and 6 of them are about Financial and Business Management. The list was based on my personality and preference, which is pretty useful for me to find future jobs.

I am going to major in Computer Science and Engineering from this fall. Therefore, the two jobs – Vice President (VP) of Technology and the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) were chosen from the list.

Vice President (VP) of Technology1

2The main work of a VP is to oversee and collect information and report to the higher level of the company, so it requires extraordinary computer knowledge and at least five years’ work experience. Meanwhile, it needs leadership and management ability. VP is a meaning job because it needs strong responsibility and persevering personalities. The average salary is about $151,525, and the probability of making a better salary raises only after 5-10 years. Based on a survey by PayScale, VPs are extremely satified with their jobs and play the important roles in their company.

 Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

34The CTO in most times is the highest position of a company’s technology part, which always need creativity and hard-working. Comparing to the VP, a CTO need more specific computer technological skills like Java, C++ according to the graph. CTO earns an average salary of $150K per year, which I will be pleased with. As far as I am concerned, CTO’s tasks are pretty meaningful for both personal development and for the worlds’ technological progress. Because people in this position need to update their knowledge and create new things all the time. Also, the possibility of getting a raise is pretty high. However, this work also need a lot of work experience, which means it is almost impossible for a student who was just graduate from university.

In conclusion, those two jobs are neither for bachelors but for experienced people who has already worked for several years. Maybe I will put them into my consideration in the future instead of the year when graduating from undergraduate school.

The other same points which let me care about is the number of male practitioners are much more than female’s – almost 97% to 3%. As far as I am concerned, this gender problem may be caused by fusty thought that females act worse than males on the science departments. However, according to the research in 2003 by Else-Quest and Hyde, when comparing the data from two international test – Math parts of TIMSS and PISA, males and females do familiar in the boss test, females even do better in TIMSS. So the inequality of gender will not hinder me to find the jobs.5

Anyway, the precondition to get those jobs is having a strong knowledge system of computer science and technology. In my point of view, salary is significant. It is a direct standard to judge one’s job. A high salary will make me more satisfied and think it more meaningful of what I am doing. So salary may be the prime element when considering my job.

My parents divorced when I was 4 years old, so I live with my mother and my grandparents. All of my family are working for the art and film. My grandfather is a film director who devoted most of his life into the spreading of Chinese Opera movie. My mother is a film editor. When I was only 100 days of birth, I was in a crew and played a little part in a film. Later when growing up, I was fond of photography, and became a chairwoman in the Photography Association in our high school and was one of the founders of the alliance of Photography Association in Zhengzhou’s high school. I am also fond of listening to music. Adam Young is my favorite musician. I think he is so talented and special. Two of his band, Port Blue and Owl City both attract me a lot. In my spare time, reading novels is my hobby. Recently, I am reading a collection of short stories called The Garden Party and Other Stories by Katherine Mansfield, a female New Zealander. It is really an excellent book.

I just graduated from No.1 Middle School of Zhengzhou.   I lived on campus with my four closest roommates in our dormitory. Because four of us are both higher than 172cm which is far higher over the beverage of the height of the girls in our class, my classmates called our dormitory ”The Home of Long Legs” jokingly. We had a lot of interesting events those three years like the volleyball competition, the chorus competition, the musical drama performance. Our association had hold the photographic exhibition once a year.

Anyway, I really spent a wonderful three years in my high school with warmly teachers, friendly mates, five ducks, three gooses, two turtles, one cat, and several fish in our school.

My future

The Ohio State University has one of the biggest campus in the United States and the diversity of students attracts me a lot. The most important reason I choose OSU is that the major of Computer Science and Technology is excellent in OSU, which is also the major I plan to study after several months. I found out that the tendency of film makings rely more and more on technology. For instance, CG (Computer Graphics) is largely used in films to make a 3D effect. Even the cinemas have more and more IMAX now. That is the reason why I plan to major in Computer Science and Engineering. On the one side, I can learn the basic programming knowledge and skills. Also, I want to participate into the research and development of advanced technologies like special-effects, virtual reality, and holographic laser projection and so on.
