Updated GOALS

Global Awareness
As an International Studies major, I am especially dedicated to learning what it means to live in a global world while appreciating and protecting cultural diversity. In addition to course work that addresses these topics, I will cultivate an open mind by studying abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia as a part of my Russian minor. This will take my classroom experiences of global awareness and give them a real-life application as I am immersed in a new and different culture.
Original Inquiry
I pursue the original inquiry goal by seeking out challenging and advanced coursework that requires me to think critically and creatively. I also plan to get involved with undergraduate research. This along with coursework that challenges me to analyze advanced research and data, will allow me to understand my own thoughts and ideas and hopefully develop them in an Honors Thesis my senior year.
Academic Enrichment
I hope to achieve academic enrichment through the choices of challenging and interesting coursework in this Honors Contract. I have chosen a double major in International Studies and Economics with a minor in Russian. I have also chosen GE coursework that I thought would be interesting and test my abilities such as Anthropology 5602 and ones that I believed would allow me to gain valuable skills such as Communications 2367H. The coursework I have chosen within my majors relate to my career goals. I would like to go into economic development and coursework such as Economics 4500 and 4600 will help me grow in relevant knowledge.
Leadership Development
I am currently on the Take Back the Night planning committee. This is an international movement dedicated to raising awareness for sexual and domestic violence. Planning this event has helped me to take initiative and gain teamwork skills. I am also currently on the executive board for Women in the Economics. We are launching this club officially in Fall 2018 and I will be serving as treasurer. Growing and developing a club from nothing has allowed me to grow in confidence while working on a project I am passionate about. I also work on campus. These activities help me learn how to balance my time and be a good leader.
Service Engagement
I volunteer my time with Take Back the Night and will be working multiple events during the week of the occasion. I also hope to find more service-oriented student organizations during my third year. Getting involved with service organizations will help me to learn the importance of serving society in volunteering and hopefully in my work when I graduate.
