Photo Partner Project

This is Robert Shisler.

Quiet and recluse, Robert is an individual driven by pride and philanthropy. He wants to be an oncologist when he grows up (although that sounds a little strange now that we’re all adults). The confidence of a calling to greatness and the ability to follow through drive him to pursue challenging endeavors academically and socially. Currently, Robert is an active member of Kick It, the on campus children’s cancer research fundraising association. “Children’s cancer research is the most underfunded research area today. Most modern groups focus on saving adult lives, which is great don’t get me wrong, but I feel motivated by the children especially because they didn’t have the chance that you or I had at a healthy life. These kids couldn’t have done anything to prevent it.”

Shisler is depicted in Koffolt Laboratory, the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering building on campus. We discussed that this was one of the best sites for a photo shoot because of its iconic LED carbon-ringed wall that identifies a place (Koffolt Labs), a topic (Chemistry), and looks really cool.

Robert was in drumline in high school but his main musical talent is jazz piano. He says that music is has also been a large influence maintaining and controlling the emotions in his life. He refused to comment when asked about these emotions. He needs a sense of dignity and won’t put his life on display for the world, which is entirely understandable. His favorite band right now is Counting Crows, an American rock band from California.

Overall, Robert is fairly amicable and I would call him one of my friends.

Dude, Short North-ing with this group was DaBomb.com. We had shakes at Stack City, which we didn’t get pictures of. Apparently things at the Short North Close. Whodathunk, RIGHT?!?!? We had some fun, and ultimately, I feel like SN is a place I can go to explore in the future and not just a far away place that I’ve heard about.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. About Me

IMG_5927Hey Y’all, just wanted to fill you all in. I guess I’ll be here for a year posting “artifacts” and such nuances. For me personally, I’ll try to take some of these run-of-the mill prompts and run with them to an almost genuine sounding stream of comments. It’s all a challenge. It’s just for fun. I think Cody and Janae know that I can write summaries of my life as dryly as possible, but I figure that this way I’ll end up with effort points for tying to cram real life into an awkward set of assignments.

Let me reflect by saying that so far these assignments have been beautifully open ended with enough space for me to share anything I want. That’s honestly great.

In this excerpt I’m supposed to introduce myself to you all, my loving crowd of faceless internet surfers. Let’s see, I’ll start with the official. I’m a snare drummer first and foremost – that’s just where all of my pride is held. After that I’m an engineer: Math, Science, and the insatiable need to understand the purpose and mechanism of everything kinda courses through my veins like napalm. I’m generally happy by a combination of habit and choice. Stick around and maybe you’ll be entertained. If not, it’s the internet. Go find someone else to criticize.

Looking forward to how this whole thing turns out!
