A Decently Dope Playlist

To complete this project, I looked first at the songs that were “most played” out of my iTunes library. This produced the following four songs.

  1. Absolute by The Fray

https://youtu.be/CdbNnus8w6o 2,686 plays

  1. If You Ever Come Back by The Script

https://youtu.be/aJIUmzQlXDM  2,431 plays

  1. The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls

https://youtu.be/JGPgxoIPY6Q  1,888 plays

  1. Pictures of You by The Last Goodnight

https://youtu.be/f7QWZBiNTMc 1,784 plays

I haven’t listened to these songs for a year and a half I think they reflect the time in my life where I was stuck in this tweeny, high-school-y, hopelessly romantic period in my social development for two and a half years. This is kinda personal to just put out there, but I was just longing after this girl whose attention I could just never win. It hurt me in the long run, but these were the songs that I listened to so that I could keep myself going. I think everybody experiences this sort of heartbreak. I guess it’s just part of life, but it is important to share these feelings. “Absolute” likely has so many plays because it was one of the first songs I had when I first got my iPod back in May 2012. I was really into The Fray then.

I transitioned out of The Fray and into The Script as a sophomore in high school. I listened to their Science & Faith album a good deal. “If You Ever Come Back” is about waiting for someone and missing them.

“The Great Escape” is a rock-ier, visionary song. Again, as a song, it encourages that endless-possibilities, keep-hoping mentality.

“Pictures of You” has a sound that is unique among these other tunes. The piano plays a more important role in this song than any of the others. I just like the piano part in this. This song, as well, is about reminiscing and maybe over savoring good times.

I think that understanding my music history is probably most transparent way to know me emotionally. Because music isn’t just noise. It is more than simply music. Music is emotion. I think this project has helped me understand that.

The last songs I want to share are from some of my more recent tastes. As I started work and became a regular driver during the final semester of high school, I listened to more radio. Initially, It was all just “Alternative Radio” – until that station got disbanded. Then my best friend’s boyfriend introduced me to the Columbus indie radio (CD 102.5). I found that I appreciated the clarity of the distinct instruments across all the songs played as an instrumentalist, myself. Not to say that all of the music is acoustic, I just find that I appreciate the indie style more because I feel that it has more emotional depth than a lot of other styles of songs.

In college, I just search for what songs I like out of what pops up on Pandora. Occasionally I’ll pick out an artist that I want to hear more of. I recently really enjoyed listening to Weezer, so I’ll include them. Really all of Weezer is just gold, so this choice is just random from them.

  1. Jacked Up by Weezer

https://youtu.be/vWhShRS74fo Piano importance is awesome.

  1. Wasted Love by City and Colour

https://youtu.be/8kKx8PneuR8 This is such a kicking song. I just love how clean it feels. It is straightforward in its sound.

  1. HeavyDirtySoul by twenty one pilots

https://youtu.be/hts6PzULHSY All of TÆP is a must-listen for me. They’re a local band. This song is from their most recent album. I got to see them in concert in the fall. I will have you know that it redefined “thebomb.com.” It was so awesome that “thebomb.com” had to go find a new domain name because the concert just blew it out of the water.

  1. Worry by Jack Garratt

https://youtu.be/hFP3qh1x1Zo This song is just chill. I appreciate this just out of the blue. I find that my taste also braches into some more electronic branches of music. Maybe I enjoy this musical faction as it focuses on rhythm, which would appeal to my nature as a drummer. I have no idea. I just think it sounds good.

  1. Nonsense (feat. Mark Foster) by Madeon

https://youtu.be/5e1DBLXnjeQ Just a kickin’ tune that I love.

WeaknessQuest

ADAPTABILITY
INCLUDER
COMPETITION
COMMUNICATION
INPUT

After reading Chapters 8 and 10 of the StrengthsQuest novella, I am renewed in my utter boredom and general displeasure with the brittle, self-help writing style of the entire website. It’s not you, StrengthsQuest; it’s me. I have a passionate distaste for all things BuzzFeed-esque; I also don’t read my horoscope. I think my phantom juju character is the celestial ass??? This activity asked me to specifically asked me to ponder what traits leaders in my life shared. I identify that a lot of being a good leader is effective social communication. I am personally separated from this class of leaders not for my social thought process. I think I am inhibited from fruition as a leader. I need to work on my social finesse – the spit and polish of my small talk, my character analysis – I want to get into someone’s head and use what motivates them, and my responsibility as a whole – usually responsible actions provide low reward:risk ratios, and I flagrantly decline them.

Regardless, I think that as far as class activities go, it’s not a bad one to keep. It identifies commonalities between student that can be bonded over. For instance, now I can label that all of my friends are “COMPETITION” based, which genuinely surprises me. Also, pondering leadership is a nice thing to stimulate. I enjoy perusing my thoughts on the actual concrete meaning of the steps I need to take to become a leader and specifically working to identify the forward direction.

I guess at this point, most of you have known me for a few months. You have probably realized that I ultimately have nothing going for me. I have academic proficiency but no desire to excel. I have talent but little work ethic. I have field experience but not enough information to become a certified expert. This is ultimately something that I holistically struggle with. I am surrounded by individuals with avenues to succeed – or at least so it sounds. I feel rather trapped in comparison to my peers. I can’t identify what’s holding me back.

Maybe it’s about reaching out. Think about Ashley, or Sara: both are just bubbly as hell and seem all put together. Let’s take a moment and think about that. I am the antithesis of put together. My main characteristic says that I “thrive in chaos,” which I absolutely do! My life is chaos. I dart from task to task, finger-plugging holes in my sinking ship.

This is Robert Shisler.

Quiet and recluse, Robert is an individual driven by pride and philanthropy. He wants to be an oncologist when he grows up (although that sounds a little strange now that we’re all adults). The confidence of a calling to greatness and the ability to follow through drive him to pursue challenging endeavors academically and socially. Currently, Robert is an active member of Kick It, the on campus children’s cancer research fundraising association. “Children’s cancer research is the most underfunded research area today. Most modern groups focus on saving adult lives, which is great don’t get me wrong, but I feel motivated by the children especially because they didn’t have the chance that you or I had at a healthy life. These kids couldn’t have done anything to prevent it.”

Shisler is depicted in Koffolt Laboratory, the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering building on campus. We discussed that this was one of the best sites for a photo shoot because of its iconic LED carbon-ringed wall that identifies a place (Koffolt Labs), a topic (Chemistry), and looks really cool.

Robert was in drumline in high school but his main musical talent is jazz piano. He says that music is has also been a large influence maintaining and controlling the emotions in his life. He refused to comment when asked about these emotions. He needs a sense of dignity and won’t put his life on display for the world, which is entirely understandable. His favorite band right now is Counting Crows, an American rock band from California.

Overall, Robert is fairly amicable and I would call him one of my friends.

Dude, Short North-ing with this group was DaBomb.com. We had shakes at Stack City, which we didn’t get pictures of. Apparently things at the Short North Close. Whodathunk, RIGHT?!?!? We had some fun, and ultimately, I feel like SN is a place I can go to explore in the future and not just a far away place that I’ve heard about.

About Me

IMG_5927Hey Y’all, just wanted to fill you all in. I guess I’ll be here for a year posting “artifacts” and such nuances. For me personally, I’ll try to take some of these run-of-the mill prompts and run with them to an almost genuine sounding stream of comments. It’s all a challenge. It’s just for fun. I think Cody and Janae know that I can write summaries of my life as dryly as possible, but I figure that this way I’ll end up with effort points for tying to cram real life into an awkward set of assignments.

Let me reflect by saying that so far these assignments have been beautifully open ended with enough space for me to share anything I want. That’s honestly great.

In this excerpt I’m supposed to introduce myself to you all, my loving crowd of faceless internet surfers. Let’s see, I’ll start with the official. I’m a snare drummer first and foremost – that’s just where all of my pride is held. After that I’m an engineer: Math, Science, and the insatiable need to understand the purpose and mechanism of everything kinda courses through my veins like napalm. I’m generally happy by a combination of habit and choice. Stick around and maybe you’ll be entertained. If not, it’s the internet. Go find someone else to criticize.

Looking forward to how this whole thing turns out!
