SP25 Tech Tool Updates

The Office of Technology and Digital Information has announced some exciting new features and updates within our learning systems for SP25.
Canvas has a new AI feature preview called Smart Search. Can’t find something in your course? Enable Smart Search and query items found within content pages, announcements, discussion prompts, assignment descriptions. Enable this feature just for you or make it visible on the course navigation menu bar for students as well. Give Smart Search a try by typing in keyword(s), content descriptions, or provide a general overview for what you are looking for. Note that his feature is still in development with plans to expand.
Another AI tool Canvas has added is the Discussion Summaries feature. This feature can be used by instructors, TAs and graders to quickly summarize discussion submissions to locate key points or ideas from a thread. Enable Discussion Summaries in your course to start exploring.
Other exciting updates coming mid-January are Discussion Checkpoints and Enhanced Rubrics. Discussion Checkpoints will allow instructors to set separate due dates and point values for initial posts and replies. Watch the Discussion Checkpoints sneak peek video to see these changes. Enhanced rubrics will provide more functionality with a new look. See what Enhanced Rubrics will look like.
Mark your calendars for an upcoming OTDI information session where they will explore these new features (and more)! When: Thursday January 23, 2025 11-12pm. Click to Register. Can’t make it or want 1:1 support? Contact Kelly Wheatley.72@osu.edu.
