Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its role in instructional design
See Philippa Hardman’s viewpoint on the role of artificial intelligence in instructional design:
How I Used AI to Turn a Document into a Course Storyboard & Prototype in <10 Mins
My observations:
- Note the discussion around learning styles, and note that “learning styles” as a concept has been negated by research. My recommendation, if you are compelled to lean into learning styles, is to refer to them as “learning preferences.”
- Note the blog author’s emphasis on the importance of careful writing in prompts. Prompts are essential to getting good results from AI.
- Note the example provided at the end of the blog and how a policy was turned into a (perhaps–you be the judge) more engaging course for learners. The strategy the blog author suggests may be applicable at the module or unit level for full-course designers and at the policy and procedure level for nursing professional development specialists.
