Cameras on or off in Zoom?
Students choose to turn their cameras on or off for multifaceted and dynamic reasons during a synchronous Zoom class meeting. Recent research revealed that physical space, interactivity, course policies related to camera use, and individual needs influenced student decisions about whether to use their camera. The authors recommend considering a “cameras optional” policy for at least part of class and allowing students to show they are attentive during class in other ways.
