A Writing Checklist
Two nurse faculty recently published a “writing checklist” that they used in a DNP writing course to provide guidance around basic requirements for scholarly writing. Topics covered include Content, Paragraphs, Sentences, and Words, and example checklist items include “Can you identify a sentence stating the main problem?” and “Does each paragraph have one clear main point?” This checklist could be used to develop a grading rubric for a writing assignment or as a self-assessment or peer-assessment exercise to improve writing before formal grading occurs. It can be adapted for use at any academic level (undergraduate through faculty). If you would like to explore strategies for adapting the checklist to your writing project, let us know at TIES_Academy@osu.edu.
