G.O.A.L.S.

Personally, the concept of G.O.A.L.S. is very important to me. One of the reasons I chose to attend Ohio State was due to the vast amounts of opportunities they provide outside of the classroom. First, for global awareness, I would like to study abroad. I took Spanish throughout high school and am taking it now in my first semester at OSU. I am looking to continue with Spanish and possibly pick up a minor in it. This is something that interests me a great deal because I have never been out of the country and have lived in Ohio for the entirety of my life. In terms of original inquiry, I have yet to find any involvement. I hope for this to change, though. I am very interested in research into analytical advancements as it relates to my major of data analytics. This is a field that is vastly growing, and I would like to involve myself in that when the opportunity is presented. Along with that, I am looking to partake in challenging classes; however, I hope to find classes that interest me and can help me in the future. Although data analytics is not in the business school, I am looking to pursue a career that incorporates aspects of a business major. With this being said, I am looking to learn business principles and take some business classes in order to be educated on business concepts. Furthermore, I am not entirely sure that data analytics is the right major for me. I do not have that much knowledge in the field of computer science which shows up a lot in data analytics. Because of this, I am looking to take a lot of these courses early on in order to truly see where I stand. I think this sets me up for success in multiple possible fields due to my uncertainty at this point. Inside and outside of the classroom, though, I would like to be a leader. In order to start this process, I am simply going to look to be a good student and classmate. This may entail volunteering in class and helping others when they are stuck. Also, I have experience with peer tutoring. This is something I would like to take up in order to help others around me and develop my own skills. I am also looking to join some social and service groups. I would like to make an impact on other students, but also I would like to help the community and help develop my full person. I have yet to find something that truly interests me, but I know I need to make a better attempt at it.

About Me

Hi, I am Patrick Tiernan, and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I intend on majoring in Data Analytics while being a part of the Honors program. This subject came to interest me through the progression of big data in sports and all the numbers and saber metrics used in many different sports. I would love to combine my love for sports and the study of big data throughout my time here and possibly after graduation.
