Due to COVID-19, things are continually changing in our lives and the 4-H program is no exception to that. 4-H Educators Leslie Cooksey and Aubrey Fowler recently offered this update with details they know as of right now:
• Project Books – Most 4-H members should have their project books already. Books can be purchased from extensionpubs.osu.edu and shipped directly to your home. Our extension office will be transitioning back to our physical office later this summer. We will post additional details about how to purchase books from our office as soon as we are open to the public.
• Summer Camp – While we can’t host our traditional camp in person this year, Fairfield County Camp Counselors have worked hard to create an online option. Our main goal is to keep the traditions and activities we have at Tar Hollow and Alley Park but adapt them to be done at home with family and friends. All activities are meant to get 4-Hers up, outside and moving – No need to sit and stare at the computer longer than necessary! Virtual Camp began on June 15th for those families who registered. If you have questions or missed the deadline and would like to participate, please call our office 740-653-5419!
• Summer Judging for miscellaneous and still projects will take place July 13 – 17th as originally scheduled. Our goal is to have in person judging with safety measures in place and a virtual option for families that may need that. There will be some modifications in place to comply with the Health Department guidelines, and families should expect to receive an email with those updates by mid-June. Keep working on those 4-H projects and getting your books completed!
• Fairfield County Junior Fair – The senior fair board is working with Extension and Fairfield Department of Health to maintain a junior fair program. There will be modifications in place depending on what the Governor’s restart Ohio plans looks like as we move closer to our fair dates. The main thing to remember right now is to keep working on those 4-H and FFA projects and getting your books started! We will still have Skillathons in September so members should be learning as much as they can about their project and finishing their book.
We are still available by phone and email and we are here to help you with any questions you may have! Please call our office 740-653-5419 or visit our website fairfield.osu.edu for help.
