This course serves as an introduction to digital drafting and modeling techniques with an emphasis on design for theatre production. We begin with the basics but move rapidly, giving students an opportunity to create a complete set of drafted plates and a full digital model of a theatrical design. Students also model and fabricate scale furniture using a 3D printer. Our primary software tools are AutoCAD and Sketchup and over the course of the semester, we learn how to integrate them and use each to its individual strengths.

Drafting & Modeling for Theatre also looks closely at fabrication methods, design conventions and production considerations for theatre and live entertainment.

In the spring of 2024, Drafting & Modeling for Theatre meets Tuesdays & Thursdays from 8:00 – 9:20. Please reach out to Brad Steinmetz with any questions.
